Even if in Greece we have our favorite street food -souvlaki- we do like our pizza also from time to time. Then again i find some time to difficult to make your own.  So here is a different funny way to  create a nice dish for your evening with friends.

So the basic thing that you will need  is a big loaf of bread. It doesnt matter what kind of bread it will be, but i think the bigger it is the better for you.  You can use a variety of ingredients but ideally this recipe is ideal for whatever leftovers you have on the fridge.

For this one i used a bit more “greek” ingredients but obviously you can improvise

INGREDIENTS THE GREEK PIZZA BREAD

  • 1 loaf of bread
  • 50 g butter, melted
  • 200-300 g various grated cheeses
  • 200 g feta cheese
  • smoked turkey slices or bacon or sausage
  • fresh onions
  • olives without the stone
  • small cherry tomatos
  • some ketchup
  • salt
  • pepper
  • Oregano

METHOD

  • Preheat the oven to 200* C .
  • Slice the bread with a sharp knife. The slices (cut parallel) should be bit apart from one another and not cut all the way through. You are actually carving it up to the bottom crust (that holds the bread together). Rotate the loaf 90* and carve again (horizontally), in the same manner.

  • So now we have a round loaf, carved to look like a chessboard. When lifting it, we can see the pieces open up.
  • Turn a bowl upside down. Place loaf on overturned bowl. This will help the square pieces open up and will make it much easier for us to fill the spaces between the pieces.
  • Fill the spaces between the pieces with cheese, meats of your desire and ketchup.
  • Try to over do it especially with the cheese as this will make it to melt everywhere and create nice smells.
  • Add some butter over the stuffed loaf.

  • Leave the pieces of tomato, fresh onion and olives for last and add them when you remove the bread from the oven.
  • Bake for 20-30 minutes in a baking pan lined with parchment paper. Remove it when the cheese has melted and the bread has become crusty.
